Free Transportation Choices
Buses, Ferry Boats, Monorails, Water LaunchesIf you are a guest at a Walt Disney World Resort, there are a variety of FREE transportation choices offered by Disney World to get to any of the four theme parks. You don't need to rent a car or depend on relatives to drive you around.
Buses will pick you up at your hotel every 20 minutes or so (check with your hotel for departure times.) Each bus will have its destination displayed on the front of the bus. When your day at the park is finished, return to the park's bus depot, look for your hotel listed atop the bus, and off you go. OR, if you desire, you can take a bus to a different theme park, Downtown Disney, or a water park.
Buses can also take you to and from Downtown Disney's Pleasure Island, and they will run until 2 a.m. to return you safely to your hotel.
Monorails run from three Disney properties straight to the Magic Kingdom's Transportation & Ticket Center. These hotels include Contemporary Resort, Polynesian Resort, and the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
Water Launches run from a variety of Disney properties, as well. They include the same three stated above, with the addition of the Wilderness Lodge and the Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.
There is also a water launch available to and from MGM and the Epcot Resort area hotels, which include The Swan, The Dolphin, Disney's Boardwalk, and the Yacht & Beach Club Resort.
For drivers only: If you are a driver, once you arrive in the Magic Kingdom parking lot, you can take a tram to the "first" entrance, which is called the Transportation & Ticket Center. This is where you buy your tickets, if you don't already have them. You then have a choice of riding a monorail or ferry boat to get to the actual theme park. Supposedly, neither one is any faster than the other, but you might want to try one to get there and one to return at the end of your day.
One last note, at the Magic Kingdom's Transportation & Ticket Center, you can also find a monorail that will take you to and from Epcot. The same transportation exists at Epcot.
TIP: Some people know that it's easier to park at Epcot and take the monorail to Magic Kingdom. There is a lot less crowd and traffic hassle at the end of your long day at these theme parks.
